Thailand has great diving – from macro to huge oceanic mantas. These photos are taken on the west coast, in the Similan & Surin islands, including Richelieu Rock – one of Jacques Cousteau’s top ten dive sites. There are also a few pictures from a couple of the wrecks there, the Boonsung wreck and the Seachart wreck.
Some of the photos are of the Phuket Vegetarian Festival, a colourful event held over a nine-day period in October, celebrating the Chinese community’s belief that abstinence from meat and various stimulants during the ninth lunar month of the Chinese calendar will help them obtain good health and peace of mind. Firewalking, body piercing and other acts of self mortification are undertaken by participants acting as mediums of the gods.
